That’s how you make a cover your own! I’m a big fan of Billy Joel; anything that he made in the seventies, in particular, is gold dust, and now I’m a big fan of Ben Bailey. It would be easy for artists to knock out a piano-based pop version of such songs, and it would be easy for Ben to choose songs to cover more akin to his bluegrass-country sound. But he does neither.

By bending Billy Joel’s music to his own musical will, he creates a gorgeous and unexpected cover that runs on picked acoustic guitars and gently wandering fiddles rather than big band piano pop. Glorious. Now check out Canyon Songs and Acoustic Covers by Ben Bailey and Tyler Coles. You won’t be disappointed.
