Sitting somewhere between the spacious end of moody folk rock, the downbeat side of understated alt-rock and the more ambient textures of cinematic soundscaping, this eponymous EP from Benjamin Spike Saunders is an excellent example of why less is more.

It is as much the atmospherics and anticipation that grows and pools and percolates in its fractured sonic cracks that make the music as much as the instrumentation surrounding this negative space. And that is both a clever and economical way to make music.
