Solidarity Song – The Castlebuilder (reviewed by Dave Franklin)

With a name such as The Castlebuilder it perhaps comes as no surprise that the message here is one of unity. Drawing on the experiences of a life lived in three countries and also the world that passes by his current Twin Cities window, this debut single is both a wonderfully simple and powerfully poignant piece. Over the simplest acoustic guitar structures he delivers his words of unity and compassion.

This “less is more” musical structure puts the words front and centre and it is this unfussy and direct approach which makes them more powerful, talking directly to the head, the heart and the soul. It questions what sort of world we are building, or perhaps allowing to be built by not putting up a fight to stop it. And the fight is one of the spirit, of community and understanding.  This simple, yet anything but simplistic, song is one which aims to heal wounds and overcomes division. How could it be titled anything other than Solidarity Song?
