Although we associate a more groove-orientated vibe with Kenny Fame, such as heard on previous tracks such as Feels Better and Time, Puzzle proves that plenty more musical weapons can be found in his sonic arsenal.
Puzzle is a beguiling and different offering, a slow and poignant piece that feels more like an intimate confessional than the usual infectious dance groover. It leans more toward a sparse hip-hop sound, taking a soul-bearing look at life, painting a portrait of the kid that never quite fitted in.
But as we know, it is such square pegs who never fit the round hole that society provides who go on to become artists, dreamers, creators, and musicians. And if there is no real resolution to the song’s lyrics, you realize that the fact that the song itself exists is the counter-point, the resolving final chapter of the story. A reminder that those on the fringes, those who seem destined to walk alone, are more often than not the ones who do great things.
