Following on from his exquisite singles, I Get Lonely, and Embraceable You, Movin’ On is yet another scintillating sonic salvo from his album Grateful. As is often the case, the track finds us in gorgeously soulful sonic waters, his saxophone lines gracefully dancing over shimmering keyboard runs and mellifluous and melodic bass grooves.

Gary Palmer always finds a singular route through the musical landscape somewhere between the traditions of soul and the reinventions of neo-soul, between gentle funk energies and infectious jazz-lounge sounds, between pop infectiousness and more ornate creativity.

This route allows him to appeal to both old-school aficionados and a whole new fan base, allowing him to indulge in both traditional and contemporary creativity.

This is jazz for the here-and-now, soul for the urban soundscape. It is the sound of an artist taking everything that made those genres such potent forces in the first place and keeping their collective flames not just alive but burning brighter than ever.
