Romance and travel are two themes that are very high on Les Fradkin’s sonic agenda. Here, as one-half of California (along with Loretta Pieper Fradkin), he neatly entwines them again into Come Fly To Fall In Love.
Again, he takes multiple threads—60s pastoral pop, sun-soaked sonic vibes, eastern hooks, and Western grooves, to name a few – and weaves them all together into a scintillating blend of pop that tugs on nostalgic heartstrings while feeling perfectly at home in the here-and-now.
Les Fradkin has been doing this for a long time. California, just one of his many musical vehicles, has been clocking up hits since the 70s, so it is no surprise that he can weave a lush and cinematic tune out of the most deft and delicate soundscapes. The art is to serve the song, to understand just what it needs and never overplay your part. These are all skills and understandings that Les Fradkin and his sonic partner in crime, Loretta, have in no small amount.
