The fourth and final teaser, taster and tester of the sonic waters before their album WORK/LIFE/BALANCE, Sleep Patterns Repeating finds Camens in fine form. Here, they effortlessly marry up their trademark big indie sound with an edgy, off-kilter, almost post-punk angularity and the result is quite remarkable.

For, whilst there is an echo of the past at work here, this is the sound of a band laying down a template for the future sound of indie, much in the same way that the much overlooked Black Hats took Jam-like intensity and Killer-esque anthemics and pretty much invented a whole new indie sub-genre, (and indeed, this is a song that wouldn’t feel out of place in their set) this is pretty forward thinking stuff.

Writing great songs is great but it isn’t enough on its own  to make a great band. To stand out from the pack a band needs to write songs that both resonate with their audience whilst moving the genre on too. Camens are doing exactly that here.
