If you want to see, or should that be hear, how genres, sounds, styles, and technologies evolve and combine to create new musical forms, Blenko is a great place to start.
Take, Only a Matter of Time. It seems built of conflicting and colliding sounds, sonic styles that used to have no business hanging around in the same place. It uses synth sounds to temper its more alt-rock urges and pop vocals to sweeten its dancefloor energy; it is groovesome and infectious yet built of substance as well as style.
If this isn’t an excellent summation of where we find ourselves today and an indication of where we might be going next, then I don’t know what is.
