The one thing about writing about music that comes at you randomly, from all corners and genres of the musical landscape, is that you have to try to find the best in music you are not that into. But it also means that occasionally, something will arrive that makes your day. It happened when Irlr landed on my desk and circle round a sphere have done it again with their new one…ones.

Power-pop might be an excellent way to describe what they do: that ability to take lush, wide-screen pop addictiveness and drive it forward with no small amount of rock urgency. The result is music made in a brilliant sweet spot. And if you want to know where that sweet spot is, start hanging around with a circle around a sphere, as they seem to have found a sonic road map to its exact location.
