The charmingly named Nan and Pops’s House sees Michael Day letting folk music do what folk music does best: gently touching and tugging nostalgic heartstrings. Charming is the right word as he remembers and reminisces, rewinds, and recalls those happy days of his childhood.
And while there is something wonderfully familiar about the song, in style at least, his gorgeously hazy voice and the addition of a trumpet that occasionally flits through really bring the form bang up to date—a simple, gorgeous, and, indeed, simply gorgeous song.
