I always find that no matter how many convoluted new genres spring up, no matter how many clever fusions and poised new ways of making music, and no matter how much the digital age has furnished music makers with never-ending new paths potential paths, you can’t beat a bit of good old garage rock.
Garage rock is a beast that sprung up in the sixties and which has stubbornly refused to evolve ever since. It features raw guitars, simple beats, relentless bass lines, gnarly solos, abrasive sonics, and shouty vocals. There is, purposefully, no room for poise or polish, or posing or pouting, just a primal scream in sonic form. Perfect.
If you want to know what I’m talking about, Bingo Boys, in general, and their latest single, Oh Yeah, in particular, are the best examples of this genre I have heard in a long time.
