Wandering between glacial sonic drifts that are perhaps inspired by and also describe the duo’s Nordic homelands, dreamscape rock, shoegazing soundscapes and even alt-pop accessibility, Baula have a great way of mixing recognisable styles into their unique sound, and new album, heavy heart, no tears is a fantastic showcase of their skills.
Just listen to a track like Santa Fe, a beguiling mix of shoegazing, indie cool, and spaghetti western vibes, or the claustrophobic ambient drifts of the title track, and tell me that this isn’t a band that demands your undivided attention. You can’t, can you?
