If you took a dash of J-Pop infectiousness and threaded it through an alt-rock soundscape, threw in some funky, almost soul-infused licks, and then added anthemic vocals, you would have found the secret sonic sauce that informs Oto Mayumi’s latest album, Good and Bad Shades.
More often found singing Anime-themed songs and broadcasting via YouTube, this marks a fundamental change of direction for the Italian-Japanese singer. But one that I hope she continues to embrace as you can clearly hear how great the results are.
