This is the second time today that I have talked about how rock music has lost a sense of who it is. And having already waxed lyrical about the genre being worse off for shedding its soul and blues elements, Nil By Habit reminds me that rock, or at least rock ‘n’ roll music, was always about the dance floor.

And so Heart As A Weapon blends staccato, rock guitar riffs with funky clubland basslines and solid, unfussy beats. Add a few vocal hooks, a sentiment that we can all get behind, some keyboards to smooth things out, and an anthemic, fist-in-the-air chorus, and you have the perfect marriage of rock and dance music.
