Once you have 6 albums, an ep and a whole bunch of singles behind you, it is only natural that you get a bit reflective about the journey that you have been on for the last decade. And with that in mind Kevin Gullickson, the man behind Radio Drive, has released a collection of his most successful singles titled, quite aptly, 2020 Vision.
His style is unashamedly pop-rock, combining the accessibility and melodicism of the former with the grind and groove of the latter. The perfect combination. Things move between the anthemic and drifting Humanity to the post-punk infused Moving On, and now, in hindsight I can see why he covered The Church’s Under The Milky Way, the influence of those antipodean icon is fairly apparent here, proving just what great taste he has.
Sweet Thing is a gentle and considered slice of love lorn rock balladry and Taste of Heaven is exactly the sort of thing which The Goo Goo Dolls would give their right arms to have written.
2020 Vision is a great snapshot of an artist who obviously has a way with a winning tune. It is going to be fascinating to see what the next 10 years brings.
