It’s been a while since Electric Peace passed my way, but it is fair to say that it doesn’t take long to remake their acquaintance. As soon as that brash and bluesy riff come into earshot, those barked and brilliant vocals roll in over the top riding Hammond organ swells and that ballsy bass undercurrent makes itself known, you instantly remember why you fell for the band in the first place.

Electric Peace seems to be on an even more outer track trajectory than the one that the  MC5 opted for. But whereas those proto-punk politicalos seemed to be driven by interlaced guitar salvos, here, we find a band with a sound built of more eclectic sonics.

The result is something wild—not just in the sense of the sounds that they make but truly wild in the feeling of edge and menace that lurks behind their music. Shoot Me feels as if they could, at any minute, abandon their gig, walk off stage and start a fight, discover a new continent, found a sect, invent time travel, invade Chile or anything in between.

It has been a long time since I encountered a band with that real sense of danger.
