As I watch the local election results come in and sense my own country lurching horribly towards the same political spectrum of grift and hate, I increasingly understand the growing frustrations of many who are watching the USA becoming a place they no longer recognize. But at least artists, musicians in particular, have an outlet for such angst and anguish.

Here, The Heard Eye chooses a very particular example, but one that cuts to the heart of a timeless truth, namely that whilst it is the old men who start wars for young men to die in, it is rarely young men from their own families; money, privilege, and, in modern times, medical certificates always seem to keep the chosen ones away from harm.

They deliver the message with their trademark groove, a neat blend of rock and blues and pop accessibility, synth cascades and guitar finesse, it’s what they do, but it is the sentiment and the wider metaphor that is important here.

It speaks volumes that week by week, the music landing on my desk, not just from our colonial cousins but from across the world, is increasingly pushing a political message or piece of poignant social commentary. But then, that is what music and musicians do best.
