If you only know Kenny Loggins from his big soundtrack hits for films such as Footloose, Top Gun and even Caddyshack, you might be surprised to learn that in 1994, he released an album of children’s songs, and not his last, called Return to Pooh Corner, inspired by the stories of A.A. Milne.

Fast forward to 2023, and we find his music and creativity celebrated as a tribute album called CaliAmericana, Vol II, which Chris Beland was invited to be part of. His song of choice is taken from that album.

Here, he stays faithful to the original, capturing its openness of sound and lyrical innocence, its space and subtlety, its sweetness and light and its humour. A simply delivered finger-picked acoustic number, it is not only a wonderful reminder of the skill and musical deftness of Kenny Loggins but also that of Chris Beland in his ability to replicate the song and not lose its soul, its purpose and its personality.

A job very well done indeed.
