Grizzly Coast may have evolved over time from a solo project to a full, five-piece band, but they have never forgotten where they come from sonically. And by that, I mean that even with the full range of instruments available to them, they use them sparingly and deftly.
And Sweet, their new one, is the perfect example of that. Over an unfussy and perfectly astute back beat of underplayed drums and poised bass lines, the melodies that dance above them are shimmering and transient, coiled and spiralling, beguiling and drifting. Add to that the delicate vocals of band leader Alannah Kavanagh, and you will have a succulent and sophisticated slice of ambient indie.
