The modern meeting of the musical minds of folk music and indie attitudes has resulted in some beautiful sounds in the last couple of decades, from the expected upbeat and infectious to more ambient endeavours. And whilst Sehruhtonin has positioned herself to the more drifting side of that spectrum, she can masterfully blend the pop structure with the more ambient folk dreamscape.
Her new album, Heart Whispers, pulls off such a balancing act a dozen times, presenting the discerning music fan with songs that wander the pop uplands as readily as they explore ambient lulls, which are based in folk reality as well as dreamlike ethereality, which are brilliantly atmospheric as they float through the listener’s consciousness.
