Screen Frogs sounds like the result of a mad psychedelic/garage rock experiment from the 60s that went so horribly wrong that it ended up so wonderfully right. The brilliantly named Subterranean Wreckage Amidst Stolen Hues is the sonic document of those late-night sonic laboratory sessions.
Where to begin? Well, let’s say that if you like bands such as Zappa or Beefheart, the krautrock intensity of bands such as Neu! or Can, or the trippy outsiderness of the early San Fran psych scene…or you just like brilliantly weird, uncategorisable, left-field, experimental music, then this is where it is at.
And that is just the first song, I was too scared to venture any further, not until I had more coffee and properly girded my loins.
