Music has to move on. Genres evolve. Even rock music has to keep up with the times. Violet’s House On Fire is the sound of precisely that happening. They take the classic big riff opening and dovetail it neatly into a more charging, indie-rock groove, throw in some twists and turns to add depth and dynamic and voila!, as they say in Quebec.
But what I found most tantalising about this song is those bits of the vocals that are more understated yet wayward, haunted, and beguiling. In those moments, I swear I can hear Jeff Buckley trying to find his way back into this world through some sort of sonic portal.
Nice…and a bit scary!
