As the first glimpse, a teaser, a taster, and a tester of the water for the band’s second album, The Next Stop, “Hourglass” does everything that a lead single should: it makes you want to hear more. If you are new to The SKBs, you have arrived at the perfect moment. If you are familiar with their work, you will notice a slight shift from what has gone before.

“Hourglass” is a soaring rock and roll tune, and it is the sound of a band sharpening their focus and adding some sonic weight. Not that there wasn’t a clever blend of melody and muscle already present in their work. It is just that now the muscle is more defined, the melodies even more instantaneous. This is rock music with the infectiousness that is often only found in the pop realm, the best of both worlds.

And, it is fair to say that it is about time, pun intended! Not only is the song about learning to accept the passing of time rather than trying to outrun it, but it is also about the time in the sense of rock and roll returning to that place where it has mass appeal and doing so without compromising any of its winning traits and traditional sounds. And that is exactly where we find The SKBs with this single.
