In a world obsessed with being liked and being seen to follow the right fads and fashions, where fitting in and being part of the pack are regarded as essential, it is great to come across an artist offering the opposite view.

Sometimes, being by yourself, which is not the same as being lonely or alone, can be enough, and as the title, Good Kind of Lonely, suggests, this is the song’s central message. Being on your own, as promoted in the song, isn’t about being sad or isolated; it is about having time to be yourself, having room to breathe and time to rest and recoup. It is time to be filled with simple pleasures, watching the sun go down or enjoying a good book; it also gives you space to appreciate life and count your blessings.

And all of this he neatly explains over a lilting soulful groove, one that blends confident beats with seductive sonics, one filled with gentle pop-infectiousness and the ebb and flow of poignant vocal peaks and sonic understatement.

When you want to be, not by yourself, but with yourself, something that we should all make time to do, this song, a taste of Darius Christian‘s album to come, makes for the perfect soundtrack.
