Taken from the album Lovescope, Destroya sees Sir-Vere doing what they do best. That is, deftly blending rock and dance music with occassional wanderings down more post-punk, trip-hop and drum and bass-infused pathways.

This track is a tethering force that holds in check some of their more eclectic creativity, in the same way that the hub of wheel keeps everything in its place. It is a solid, grounded piece of music built on liquid basslines, skittering, and lilting beats, a digital dance floor groover constructed from the analogue building blocks of a more rock-orientated process.

And that is what is so great about Sir-Vere, that dichotomy, that knife edge that they walk between rock expectations and dance infectiousness, groove and grind, melody and muscle, pandering to neither one nor the other yet satisfying both.

And with this single coming as a four-track ep, and three other alternative mixes making up the rest of the package, you can’t say it isn’t an exciting and intriguing sonic slice. And as these reimaginings wander from subtle reinvention to a full-on dance embrace and finally to a beguiling electro-rock mix, you realise that not only is there something for everyone but that Sir-Vere has a unique musical vision, one that knows no boundaries when it comes to musical demarcations, genres, or even rules.

Just as it should be.
