Internationally acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Elvira Kalnik has just announced her latest single and video, “Water Knows,” a song that is already being considered for several music awards.

Born of a period of personal upheaval and transformation, her new single reflects this time of restlessness and change, not least through its unique and dynamic blend of various dance sounds, encompassing everything from conventional clubland rhythms to deep house sonics, electronic invention and digital dexterity, and even jazz vibes and jungle grooves.

Liquid synths ebb and flow with the tides, while liquid beats drive the track forward with an insistent yet hypnotic pulse. Layered across this electronic wash are forward-thinking sonics—textures that shimmer and fracture, pulling the listener into the song’s hidden depths. Then comes, unexpectedly yet perfectly positioned, the sound of a trumpet, soulful and drifting, a warm human counterpoint to the incredible precision of the digital backdrop. It doesn’t just decorate the sound, it converses with it, reminding us that even in the most futuristic landscapes, echoes of tradition still linger.

And at the center is her voice—fluid and dynamic—sliding from hushed, considered delivery into soaring vocal crescendos. The interplay between beats, trumpet, and voice turns the song into something more than a track to dance to; it becomes a cinematic experience, one that balances the physical pull of rhythm with the emotional depth of melody.

Most songs are enhanced by a visual aspect, and that is certainly the case here. Kalnik’s self-directed video adds both a splash of Day-Glo color and aquatic intrigue, and underlines the power of this titular element. Water is both a destructive force and a life-giver; it is an integral part of who we are as humans, it makes up the majority of the planet we live on, and it is as necessary, natural, and integral to us and our world as the air we breathe. It is the reason life exists.

A classically trained singer-songwriter, producer, model, actor, and fashion designer, Kalnik has been defying convention since the release of her first album, which came before she was even 15. Whether fusing operatic drama with jungle beats or crafting lush visual narratives, she continues to push sound and story into bold, uncharted sonic waters.
