We get used to Christmas songs being big, brash, brassy singalongs, all substance, and petite style, well, not style that will last beyond the end of the month anyway. So it is great to come across Signe Vange, and her take on what other forms such a seasonal sonic sentiment can be.

Christmas Song is fractured and delicate, deftly delivered and built as much of space as it is music. But when you look at the lyrics, you find genuine honesty and get a real jolt. While everyone else is singing about how wonderful everything is, Singe Vange sets a scene for a relationship that isn’t going well but might find some redemption in that one day of the year. Sadly, there is more truth in these simple sentiments than in any other Christmas song you will ever hear.
