Undone sees Ryan Van Dordrecht reconnecting with the sounds he grew up with. Although his previous musical vehicles, such as Americana popsters Sidestar and alt-rockers Castella, saw him share stages with everyone from Death Cab For Cutie to The Gin Blossoms, Undone reunites him with his formative favourites, such as Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac, via musical influences such as War On Drugs and Father John Misty.

All In Your Mind brilliantly lays out the sonic stall, an understated, soul-drenched version of classic Americana, and across nine further sonic salvos, he explores such a sound to the full. Back To Life is understated and restrained, with evocative guitars and chiming pianos seeing the song weave a nostalgic web, lyrically and musically and Human Nature grooves along like a long-lost Tom Petty song.

Hurts Like Hell is a shimmering infusion of understated new wave vibes and alt-country sentiment, and the title track returns us to that sensual blend of R&B and Americana, soul and blues that the album kicked off with.

It’s an album he never intended to make, a creation whose process only became apparent in hindsight. Imagine if you were that talented that you could create albums this damned good without realising you are doing so. Man!
