You probably know Elena Seigman as the vocalist of many of the nazi-zombie songs found in the Call of Duty game series or as a producer and high-ranking executive in the male-dominated world of video games. But if you know her because of her masterful alt-country/rock debut ep, The Mighty, then you will be interested to know that ahead of an album of her favorite songs reimagined, called Cover Me, that first sonic outing is being re-released, which can only be a cause for celebration.

The opener, Cave Creek Jail, kicks things off in a bravely understated fashion, a floating country ballad that seems to drift ghost-like along the boundaries between pop and country, blues and rock, as effortlessly as the southern winds drift along more tangible borders. Subtle and seductive!

The title track is upbeat and infectious, Abilene is spacious and sparing, and, as if to foreshadow Cover Me, there is even room for a very country take on Motorhead’s Ace of Spades, a song that is bound to bring a smile to your face and which lends itself to the genre with surprising ease.

Elena has already scaled the dizzy heights of the gaming world, but it seems that the music industry is where her sights are currently set. Based on the strength of this album, she has certainly established the perfect base camp from which to sally forth.
