We, humans, are solar-powered creatures. The sun comes up and recharges our batteries. It gives us the energy to get on with our day, makes us feel better, and makes us think. As Logan Metz finds himself bathed in the morning rays with a long road ahead of him, he has plenty of time to think about the bigger issues, about the world around him, about himself.

And as he delves deeper into such personal philosophies and existential vanishing points, the song ebbs and flows with his thoughts. From gentle piano-led lilts through indie-pop energies and on to find himself skirting the rock realms before dropping down into a lush, saxophone-infused ambient middle-eight and then heading out once more into music’s more anthemic altitudes.

It’s a great pop song, a funky and fabulous one, a tightly woven, dynamic design of organ washes and propulsive beats, energetic guitars and folk finesse, a neat blend of deftness and delicacy. And as richly cast as the music is, it is also lyrically thoughtful, and, by the time the song heads for the finish line, wonderfully redemptive. Maybe everything is going to be alright after all!
