We have all heard the adage, “less is more,” but perhaps there are some out there who  don’t know what that really means – just another antiquated cliché, throwaway jargon from another time. Well, if you are one of those people, give “Say Something,” the new single from Naïmah, a spin, and all will become clear.

The “less”, in this case, is the fact that they can build the most beautiful of songs with just acoustic guitars, voices, and a trumpet break. The “more” is that together, those build the most beguiling and memorable piece of music that you will have heard in a long time.

Admittedly, it isn’t quite as simple as that, the guitar work is spun into ornate and eloquent cascades; the voices are hushed and harmonious, and even the trumpet, whilst soaring, is also delicate and seductive. Perhaps it is the atmosphere that they capture in between gorgeous sonic threads that makes the difference, the room they leave that allows other intangible feelings, additional sonic emotions to pool and percolate, the space that lets the light get in, which is the absolute brilliance here. Bugt then, if we knew how they worked their magic, we would all be doing it and it would cease to become just that…magic.

Rarely does so much restraint yield such a quietly powerful experience. Proving that if less is more, then this much less is so much more…if you get my meaning.

“Say Something” is out on Friday 05th via Brutture Moderne Records
