On one hand, Vancouver is wealthy, beautiful, and growing fast. On the other hand, poverty, addiction and hardship abound. The Downtown Eastside is still Canada’s poorest postal code to date.
Here” was inspired by my experience volunteering on the Eastside. This song deals with the misconception of homelessness in our city through the eyes of a lost close friend. Many people living on the street feel dehumanized and misunderstood. Most get judged before seeking to understand their trauma or their story.
