New Music of The Day – XXXIII: Leather Jacket – Arkells

J1zkpGsE9tmLl3d0xgr2a6nBnL0181vo06ViDYQ1dFIThe chart topping Canadian 5-piece Arkells are headed to the UK as they announce an extensive UK/European tour and an exclusive orchestral arrangement for track Systematic.

”Living in an old industrial city [Ontario] in the midst of transition is both revealing and inspiring; like our neighbours, we build on the past and strive for something more.” with the release of their 3rd album High Noon coming out August last year, Arkells are ready to hit the UK as they build on their previous successes and look to pursue the future. With that spirit in mind Arkells add ”What keeps us up at night is the shit we wish we had done, not the times we tried and faltered… If we have regrets, it’s rarely from trying something new.” With this sort of audacious mind set, Arkells are a force to be reckoned with and the new and exclusive orchestral arrangement for single Systematic shows that.

This rock ‘n’ roll classicism, shot through with some country soul, is a hugely powerful yet stripped-back performance that showcases an intense atmosphere that is, for the most part, created by the compelling voice of lead vocalist Max Kerman.

Jackson Square , the band’s first full length LP was released in 2008 to critical and commercial acclaim, garnering the Juno Award for New Group Of The Year in 2010. In 2011, they released Michigan Left, a collection of blue-eyed soul, sing-a-long anthems. In 2012 they won the Juno Award For Group Of The Year, and the CBC Music award for Best Live Band. Not only that, Arkells have toured with acts such as Metric, The Tragically Hip, Tokyo Police Club, British Sea Power, Anti-Flag and The Black Crowes.
