Following on from some brilliant Soundcloud demos last year, Wyldest have finally entered a proper studio with a producer and emerged with the bands first single proper, a self-released track with production from Guy Fixsen (My Bloody Valentine, Slow Dive, Pixies) that builds from where the demos left off, exploding into a sparkling crescendo lead by Zoe Mead’s soaring vocal and the intricate, carefully crafted guitar tones that feature throughout their work.
This is a lo-fi dream-pop track of extraordinary quality. Hitting the current musical zeitgeist dead centre, this is a spacious, hazy track, awash with reverb and honeyed, astute melodies resulting in a calling card that should see them spoken off in the same breath as contemporaries Warpaint and Beach House and that has left me rather eager for more from the band
Now North London based (but hailing from The West Country and South Coast originally) the trio of Zoe Mead, Holly Mullineaux and Jack Gooderham have only been writing and performing since summer 2014 but have already enjoyed early support from the likes of Radio One’s Huw Stephens, NME, DIY Magazine, The Line Of Best Fit and The Telegraph.
The quality of their two early self-produced demos – “Dark Matter” and “Wanders” – also alerted the attention of Green Man, with the band opening the Welsh festival back in August, and DIY, who booked them as part of their all-dayer alongside the likes of fellow up-and-comers Palace, Blessa and Flyte.
The release is followed by a headline show at Camden’s Lock Tavern on Wednesday 25 February, with support from NME-tipped Matagot and Molly Wagger.
