The fact that punk, at its best, is just pop music that has grown up, developed an attitude, put on some sonic weight and spends its spare time staggering around, belligerent, aloof and full of menace is clearly on view here.

Wilted Bloom has all the infectiousness and contagion of pop music, albeit pop music that would knock you to the floor rather than watch you dance across it. Pop music that grew up away from the light listening to 60’s garage rock bands and seventies second-wave punk pioneers. Pop music that hates itself and so is trying to knock itself down and build something gnarly and dark, angst-fuelled and aggressive in its place. On the strength of this, it’s succeeded. And then some!
