Although it is fair to say that on When Will My Love Be Enough?, Jo Burgess ticks a lot of boxes for folk fans, from the track title to the beautiful acoustic delicacy of the song, it is the other elements that are found here that will ensure that she will never be dismissed as just another modern day folkie and boxed into a generic corner.
There is certainly something extraordinary in the chiming sonics that burst through the space she leaves in the song, the haunting harmonies, the shimmering indie sensibility, and pop accessibility.
We may have a well-defined idea of what folk music sounds like, based on what has gone before, but Jo Burgess is the sound of folk music rushing forward to embrace a bright new future.
