Dance and pop music usually come from the more upbeat, uplifting, and…well, just generally up, sonic realms. But the great thing about Addley is that he turns those forms on their head to create a whole new vibe within those genres.

The result is music punctuated with pathos and melancholy but which still has all the beat and energy of pop and dance music, if only at a more subdued pace. It’s not quite gothic – in fact, it’s certainly not gothic in the usual sense – but certainly reminiscent of how bands such as Depeche Mode blended dance and pop, and post-punk power and gothic shade to create a signature sound. And that is a good point of reference to have hanging over your head..
