This is an excellent analogy for how music evolves. Imagine a bunch of kids who grew up listening to hip-hop and Britpop, who have had indie and pop as their formative soundtrack but were curious enough to make their quests into classical music from the 60s and 70s. If they formed a band, then the sound would be awesome and the perfect example of the past taking root in the present.
