Take a swathe of garage rock and run it through a pop filter, fifty per cent attitude and the same amount of accessibility, and you have the makings of a song like Villain, the new one from Darrian Gerard.

I say the makings of because it obviously isn’t as simple as that. Here, Gerard adds additional sonic touches such as raw stacatto riffs, that not-to-be-messed-with street smart vocal vibe, that also wanders into some more angelic realms, and equal amounts of punch and poise, muscle, and melody.

Contradictory? Perhaps, but we all know about opposites and attractiveness.
