There is something beautiful about the sound of a distant, muted trumpet, so any song that opens up on such a sound has hooked me from the start. But one trumpet does not make a track, so what comes next is vital. What comes next with this latest track from J.J. Mayke is brilliant.
Brushed drums turn into beats, that mute brass becomes a breezy blast, pianos chime through, and the heat slowly rises. But everything remains relaxed and seductive, a song woven from soulful guitar licks and hazy Hammond organs and even when the song kicks in, it is spacious and delicately put together.
Lovely stuff.
