If you took the essence of artists such as Elliot Smith, Nick Drake, and Jeff Buckley and applied that to a more accessible, pop-infused way of writing songs, the result might be much like this latest one from Andreas Grannes.
That isn’t to take anything away from him, I’m not saying that he has opted for a less creative or edgy form to make his life easier. But his music certainly has an accessibility that those listed above often didn’t. So if you ever wonder what Nick Drake might have sounded like if he had stayed around long enough to realize that he could have had a mainstream career without losing what his music was all about, Andreas Grannes, in general, and Royal Space Dog, in particular, are it.
But of course you can forget the speculation and just enjoy Grannes music instead.
