With all the hallmarks of classic metal and yet still enough contemporary twists and turns to keep things interesting, On the Wings of Dragons sounds both fresh and wonderfully familiar.

You could argue that you don’t have to keep reinventing genres; you just have to find new ways of improving them, keeping them alive by doing things better than what has gone before rather than radically different. There may be accusation that such an approach is merely  reinventing the wheel, but at least here we have a band smart enough to fit it with a cool whitewall tyre with a nice retread and then take it out for a spin, clouding the street with burnt rubber and leaving tracks all way down the road, whilst waking up the neighbourhood.

And, on the strength of this squalling, driven, powerful yet poised, melodic, and muscular piece, that is precisely what Angels on the Battlefield is all about. Nice.
