Some artists write songs that seem to encapsulate a certain amount of atmosphere, that unplayed and unplanned sonic emotion that is more than the sum of the music’s parts that seem to pool and percolate at its heart. Amos Waits creates atmospheres that have songs at their heart.
I say this because Never Over You is more than merely a tune, a set of lyrics, or a song in the conventional sense. It is more a mood, a feeling and experience… and an atmosphere that just happens to have taken the form of a song.
Moody, magical, marvellous.
