Anything that reminds me of Screamedelica era Primal Scream has got to be a good thing. Too right! Okay, it’s not like this is a pastiche or plundering of that band’s past glories. Still, it does sit in the same place in the modern musical landscape: between rock moves and dance grooves, commercial breakthroughs and cultish credibility, and music made between pop and a hard place.
Bass driven, and ebbing and flowing between the understated and overtly anthemic, it makes a big impact without being ego-centic, it slow burns effortlessly between smouldering beauty and wide-screen, dark cinematics. What I’m saying is that it is big and it is clever! How often do you get to say that about a track?
