I love songs that have a real duality. It shows an artist able to work with depth, metaphor, contradiction, and hidden meanings. In the case of Lavender, the new single from Fxrrvst, this duality comes from the fact that, whilst the lyrics deal with more personal and perhaps troubled sentiments and an overall sense of experience, healing and moving on, the song itself is catchy as hell.

An indie song with alt-pop pretensions, or perhaps vice versa, Lavender is the missing link between emo and the mainstream. It can brood and reflect as only the former genre can, yet it is the sort of song that, given the right sonic winds and a dose of good luck, could easily make it to mainstream radio play across the globe. wouldn’t that be something?
