Proving that pop doesn’t have to be all sugar and spice and all things nice, Hilla Peer delivers the flip side of the pop coin with Home Now. But while the song isn’t full of glam and energy, it is nothing if not edgy and infectious, dark and delicious.
But that also means she doesn’t have to tick the pop boxes that give the genre a bad name. She doesn’t play with day-glow sonics or easy accessibility; she doesn’t appeal to comfort zones or chart accessibility. But despite that, or more likely because of it, the song is beguiling, full of gothic allure, and sounds like the perfect early-hours anthem of the hardest-to-find, most discerning underground nightclub in town.
