Johnny Cash famously “shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die,” well, this latest one from Painted Friends kicks off with a similar confession; the clue, if you have done your bible studies, is in the title, I guess.
Such tragedy is the stuff of country music. Still, here, this band of Detroit alt-rockers plant a flag in the same bleak territory and defend it through growling guitar lines and resonant beats, not to mention a vocal that truly shakes with the gravitas of the situation. Gripping stuff!
