Playing such traditional music in this supposedly progressive age could be seen as an act of rebellion, a bit like not having an arm full of tattoos or admitting that (early) Coldplay did actually have some great songs. Not that Chris Keaton and The Millennials are merely re-inventing the bluesy, rock ‘n’ roll wheel; rather, they are taking that wheel and polishing and honing it, adding a neat set of white walls and cutting new treads and then taking it for a spin round the block, waking up the neighborhood and leaving tire marks all down the street.
“Lucky For Me” is rock ‘n’ roll with a new zest for life, a blend of the fresh and the familiar… harmonicas wail, low-slung guitars groove and grind, barrelhouse pianos run their own cool counter melodies through the heart of the song, beats and bassline nail everything down.
Yes, you’ve heard this before, but that doesn’t mean it’s not exactly what you have a hankering for…after all, how many times have you cooked your favorite meal or rewatched your best-loved old movies?
The future might look cool, but the past is where everything you love lives!
