“Heart Break Like Mine” may, at least on the surface, feel like just another song about the demise of love and the breakdown of a relationship, another song about regret and heartache. But dig a little deeper into why the song was written, and you find that Sylvie Abate, who is behind the musical project, is the founder of Artists & Activists Records, and is using music, songs like this, to highlight issues within the farming industry, namely the suffering and pain caused to animals.

Here, Bryon Harris delivers his soft and seductive vocal over the gentlest acoustic guitar as mournful strings and haunting harmonies add to the sense of sorrow and loss. And this less-than-direct approach is a clever move – no one likes being preached to or told what to feel or think. But if you let the listener work things out for themselves, make their own discovery, and draw their own conclusions, that’s when the harsh realities hit home. It not only hits home but gives the listener something, actually a lot, to think about.
