So, it’s pop. But pop that has been elevated to a poised and polished position. It is indie, but indie without the cliche and self-aggrandizing sense of false cool. A ballad? Yes, but one which goes beyond the usual blandness and convention of the form. Way beyond. It’s symphonic. It’s seductive. It’s harmonious. It’s heavenly. Don’t you love music which doesn’t fit convention and which is much more than the sum of its sonic parts? Of course. Me to.
Fernanda, It’s All Right seems to float past, a drifting musical form with as much grace and emotion as words and instrumentation. It slowly ebbs into earshot as quickly as it flows out again, the body of the song seemingly translucent and formless. It’s not that there is no structure to the music, it is just that it has been draped in so many soft textures and sweet tones that it is difficult to see what is holding everything together, and that is a fantastic trick to be able to do.
Moses Mikheyev is a new name to me, but on the strength of this gorgeous and unparallelled single, it is a name that I will be keeping a close eye on.
